The Victoria Woollen Mill was built in 1857 by James Rosemond as he undertook the establishment of an eventually thriving woollen industry in Almonte. It's situated at the entrance to Almonte's main street on one of the most picturesque waterfalls on the Mississippi River. It functioned as a working mill until the1960’s. Greg Smith and Stephen Brathwaite purchased the structure in 1993 and began renovations. The building has been completely gutted and restored maintaining it's original stonework, beautiful oiled wooden beams and deep window sills. An addition was added on the back with large windows and generous balconies overhanging the falls. Currently the building accommodates a mix of office, residential and retail space. On the street level there are shops and a fine restaurant. This building was the first of our projects and played the key role in encouraging us and others to continue to invest in Almonte’s rich architectural heritage.
